Friends Disaster Relief July 15-20 2007
On May 4, 2007, an F5 tornado hit the town of Greensburg, Kansas, causing almost total destruction of the entire town. In July, B.W.B.T. partnered with Friends Disaster Relief and took a team to Greensburg to work on construction of the first house that was being rebuilt in Greensburg since the tornado. The house is for John and Elsie Unruh, an elderly Mennonite couple. This trip included special team work, as it included volunteers from Texas, Georgia, and Iowa.

Friendswood Community Church May 2007
In May of 2007 Dr. Greg Bonnen of Friendswood Community Church organized a Small Group to build a high school building in Carbonera. The group spent four days of hard work, raised the building from the slab up and closed it in with tar paper. The group hosted a fiesta for the kids of Carbonera, complete with a piñata! They also made new friends in the village and were invited to a quincinera.

Friendswood Community Church, May 2007
A men’s group from Friendswood Community Church built a portable house on their church’s property. On May 20, 2007, the house was moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where it now serves a family whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Very special “thanks” go to Cheetah Trucking for moving the house and to Glenn Crane and Rigging for providing a moving crane and operator.

Gateway Community Church, July 2007 Carboneras, Mexico
A youth group from Gateway Community Church traveled to Carbonera in July of 2007. The group installed siding, painted, and added stucco to the interior and exterior of the Baptist Church. The group took some time out for fun by taking a boat ride to a small island and a road trip to San Fernando for site-seeing, shopping, and dinner.

Hurricane Relief - Portable House Project - Methodist Churches Working Together
First United Methodist Church, Pearland, and Kingwood United Methodist Church in cooperation with Builders Without Borders of Texas, Inc., are building a house that will be moved to Mississippi to help someone in need after Hurricane Katrina. Kingwood U.M.C. is providing the funding and volunteers. F.U.M.C., Pearland, is providng the location for the worksite and volunteers.

Kingwood United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church, Pearland April 2007
In April of 2007, a dental team from Kingwood United Methodist visited Carbonera. Over 300 patients were treated. Dental care included cleaning, education in dental hygiene, as well as fillings and other procedures. An unexpected event occurred when a boy showed up with a serious cut after falling onto some rocks. The dental team spent several hours caring for him. They were able to clean and suture the cut, which required over 100 stitches. In follow up a few weeks later, the family says that the boy is doing well! Members of First United Methodist Church, Pearland, were also on this trip completing the interior of the sewing school, which will be ready for classes by June of this year.

Kingwood United Methodist Church, July 2007 Carboneras, Mexico
A youth group from Kingwood United Methodist Church sent a team of approximately 25 youth and adults to Carbonera to work on the construction of the high school. Work included installing the siding, trim, and painting on the exterior and running the electrical wiring on the interior of the third high school building.

Second Baptist Church, Houston June 2-9, 2007 Carboneras, Mexico
The Way Sunday school class from Second Baptist Church, Houston, sent 30? people to Carbonera in June of 2007 to build a Baptist church building. The building is a two-story structure with a beautiful water-front view! Upon completion, it will house a sanctuary for worship, rooms for Bible study classes, and accommodations for mission teams working in the village. The Second Baptist team built and erected the walls, installed the decking and tar paper. A special touch donated by the group is a beautiful brass bell that will be installed in the building.

Carboneras, Mexico April 2006
On April 21st 2006, a group of students from Alvin High School went to Carboneras Mexico. The group led by Kelly Izzard were mostly from the National Honor Society Club. The students from Alvin, landscaped The Paqvillion where we hold Vacation Bible School. They also finished a house under construction, set up a 9,000 gallon water tank, put up a fence, and played games with the local children.

Carboneras, Mexico June 2006
A team from F.U.M.C., Pearland, went to Carbonera to conduct sewing classes, Vacation Bible School, and work on the construction of the first high school building in Carbonera. In addition, the team also held a dedication for the elementary school building that had been constructed by their church’s team in June of 2005. Members of the Celebration Group from F.U.M.C., Pearland, came to the dedication to do a concert for the people of the village. Nearly 1,600 hot dogs, 1,000 bags of chips and more than 25 gallons of Kool Aid were served! In addition, the team gave out hundreds of pairs of shoes, Spanish Bibles, and children’s prayer bracelets, in addition to supplies to the school of Carbonera. The team took some time out for fun during the trip by taking a shopping trip to Carbonera and an afternoon at the beach on a small island just off of Carbonera, where they were taken by boat by some of the local fishermen. <script language=

Easter in DeLisle, Mississippi April 12, 2006
On April 12th of 2006, a team made up of members from First United Methodist Church, Pearland, members of New Hope Church, and employees from the Dixie Farm Road Wal-Mart in Pearland, Texas, delivered 90 bicycles, 440 Easter baskets and a special visit from the Easter Bunny to DeLisle Elementary School in DeLisle, Mississippi. Six months after Hurricane Katrina, many of the people in this area are still living in trailers and tents provided by FEMA. Easter was made a little bit brighter when this crew arrived. The bicycles were given to the fourth graders at the school. Easter baskets were given to the kindergarten through fifth graders. The baskets and bicycles were provided by First United Methodist Church, Pearland, New Hope Church, Second Baptist Church of Houston, and the Friendswood Rotary Club.

In March of 2006, Friendswood Community Church of Friendswood, Texas, sent a mission team to begin construction of a high school building in Carbonera South. The crew was able to frame the building, raise the walls, and put the roof on the building. The team also conduction a Vacation Bible School each day for the children of Carbonera.

Baroncom and Mexcital August 2005
In August of 2005, we went to Carboneras to pour a house slab for a family. We also toured Baroncom and Mexcital with John Freyler from Samaritan’s Purse. Touring the villages gave us a good idea of the destruction caused by Hurricane Emily.

Boone United Methodist Church June 11-17, 2005
Dr. Rodney Duke and crew came to Carboneras in June to build a house for Carmelo and Olga. They also poured the slab for a new elementary school building and helped finish several projects at the dormitory. Temperatures were in the 60s when they left Boone, North Carolina. It was 102 degrees when they landed in McAllen, Texas, though not one complaint was heard. The team’s work was excellent! Dr. Dan held an eye clinic. Everyone was invited to a quincenera.

Chirstmas in DeLisle, Mississippi December, 2005
In December of 2005, members of First United Methodist Church, Pearland, Friendswood Community Church, and New Hope Church of Pearland joined with Builders Without Borders of Texas to raise the funds and purchase 100 bicycles. On December 23rd, the bicycles were delivered to the fifth graders at DeLisle Elementary School in DeLisle, Mississippi. DeLisle is one of the towns that was almost completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. DeLisle Elementary is the only school left standing and is serving all children in the area from kindergarten through 12th grade. A letter went out to the families of all fifth graders letting them know when the bicycles would be arriving. Parents brought their children to pick up the bicycles along with other donations such as turkeys, backpacks, school supplies, and toys. There were lots of smiles and happy faces as boxes of brand new bicycles were unloaded and put together!</p

First United Methodist Church, Pearland and Boone United Methodist Church in Carbonera Mexico December 26-30, 2005
Members of First United Methodist Church, Pearland, and Boone United Methodist Church of North Carolina joined together on a trip to Carbonera. The Pearland team constructed a pavilion next to the dormitory, conducted sewing classes for the women of Carbonera, and brought computers to be used in the elementary school building, which had been built in June. The pavilion will be a gathering place for future mission teams to have meals, fellowship, worship, and to conduct Vacation Bible School and other classes for the people in Carbonera. The Boone Team built a house for a family, conducted Vacation Bible School, and again brought Dr. Dan, who set up an eye clinic. The teams joined together for worship/devotional time and meals. It was a wonderful and very productive week!

Friendswood Church of Christ July 2005
On July 17th, Friendswood Church of Christ went to Carboneras. One July 19th, so did Hurricane Emily. One Monday, the team poured concrete for a new high school, worked on the elementary school building, and helped the people of the village prepare for Hurricane Emily. The team left Carboneras on Monday afternoon and returned on Thursday to help with the aftermath of the hurricane. All of the buildings constructed by Builders Without Borders of Texas were still standing, but many houses in the village were destroyed. The next four days were spent putting boats back into the water, cutting trees, and helping people clean up. It was one of the best trips we have been involved with. We were able to do a survey of the destruction caused by Hurricane Emily and the needs of the people, which will help with future projects.

Friendswood Community Church March 2005
On March 7, 2005, Friendswood Community Church made a trip to Carboneras, Mexico. Thirty-one people spent their spring break working for others. They built a complete home in three days for a widowed man named Rumondo and his children. They poured a slab for another house, worked on the dorm building, applied stucco to a family's house, and planted four gardens for people in the village. They even found time for vacation bible school and devotionals every day. This was a very hard-working group of people, and they made a big difference in the lives of the peple of Carboneras. They also made many new friends that I'm sure they will remember forever.

Grenada December 2005
In December of 2005, a crew went to Grenada. The materials for three complete houses had been shipped to the site ahead of the crew’s arrival. Within two weeks, we were able to tear down two houses, complete work on one new house, and begin another. The first house we built was for Stacey, a lady with seven children. The second house was for Reggie, a man who has special physical needs. In addition, we were able to set up a mission station in St. Georges. This mission station will house mission groups while they are working in Grenada.

Grenada January 2005
January 2005, Tim White, Lenny Primus, and Jeff Schragger flew to Grenada to help 'Houses 4 Granada' build their first house. Paul Carrier orchestrated the build for a woman named Diane and her nine children. Her house had been completely obliterated by Hurricane Ivan. The house that we built was 18 feet wide by 29 feet long, with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a small porch. It was built on the side of a mountain, and was not easily accessible.

Hurricane Katrina September 2005
During the first of September, we took a trip to help the people of Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. Food was collected at H.E.B. in Friendswood, WalMart in Pearland, and at the Friendswood Fire Department.

Hurricane Rita October 2005
On October 1, 2005, we went to East Texas after Hurricane Rita. The days were spent cutting trees and putting tarps on houses in Nederland, Port Arthur, and West Orange. A trailer load of food was delivered to Kirbyville. We stayed at the Triumph Church in Nederland.

Patty's House Johnson Bayou December 2005
In 2006, Friendswood Community Church, went to Johnson's Bayou, Louisiana to repair a house after hurricane Rita. Patty, a very nice lady, owned the house. Friendswood community Church men's group paid for the materials and did the work. They sided and painted the whole house. Great Job!

United Methodist of Pearland June 2005
A team from First United Methodist Church, Pearland, spent June 18-24, 2005, in Carboneras. The team completed the exterior construction of an elementary school building, which will house a library/classroom and a computer room. Vacation Bible School was held daily for the children in the village, while sewing classes were held for women. A number of sewing machines were given to women who attended the sewing classes each day. Sewing classes will be an ongoing project. The women will be able to get fabric and sewing supplies.

United Methodist of Pearland October 16-20, 2005
On October 16-20, 2005, a small group from First United Methodist Church, Pearland, visited the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. The group spent time working in a distribution tent in DeLisle, a small town totally destroyed by the storm. They worked to receive shipments of donated items, sort them, and distribute them to local resident, who are living in tents and trailers. Other work on this trip included cutting and clearing trees and building a shed for a resident of DeLisle.

Friendswood Church of Christ July 2004
On July 18, 2004, the Friendswood Church of Christ went on a mission trip to Carboneras, Mexico. Although it was very hot, they were able to complete the first story of a new dorm that will house mission teams for years to come. They were also able to put in a septic system and lay 150 ft of water lines. The mission team worshipped at the local Church of Christ and developed a relationship that will extend into the future. The Church of Christ youth are hard workers and their efforts have significantly improved the lives of the people of Carboneras.

Friendswood United Methodist December 2004
On December 27th, 2004, the United Methodist Church of Friendswood visited Carbonaros. The crew was made up of families and friends spending their Christmas vacation helping others. We put the roof on the dorm building and ran the wire and plumbing. We built fence around the church and the crew put on a heck of a vacation bible school with about 100 local children attending.

On March 13, 2004, the Friendswood United Methodist Church went on a mission trip to Carboneras, Mexico. They poured concrete, put in a septic system, completed construction on a kitchen, and installed a water line. Everyday, they put on a vacation bible school program for the children of the village and spent a lot of time interactive with the people in the village. Many friends were made and many letters have been written to stay in touch with their new friends.

Friendswood United Methodist Novemeber 2004
On Thursday, November 16th, we went to Carbonaros. We were joined on Sunday, the 18th, by a work crew from Friendswood United Methodist Church. We worked until Friday the 23rd, laying water lines, electrical lines, and building the second floor of the new dorm building. The group also did Vacation Bible School every day and did activities with the children of the village.

We traveled to Grenada on Thursday, September 23, 2004, as representatives of Builders Without Borders of Texas and members of Habitat for Humanity to evaluate the immediate needs of the peple of Grenada.

St. Helen's Catholic Church July 2004
On July 28, 2004, St. Helen's Catholic Church, In Pearland, embarked on a mission trip to Reynosa, mexico to work at an orphanage called Pilar de Esperanza. Fourteen people installed two septic systems and finished setting up a water well for the orphanage. Despite the heat and stormy weather, the young adults from St. Helen's did an excellent job and finished all of the projects that were begun. We look forward to going on another trip with Veronica Kennedy and the young adults from St. helen's Catholic Church.

United Methodist of Pearland June 2004
Builders Without Borders of Texas teamed up with The First United Methodist Church of Pearland from June 5 – June 12, 2004. The results of this effort produced one entire house, one septic system installed, and one concrete slab poured for a new dorm. In addition to our construction efforts, the Methodist Church also held many activities with the children of the village, including Vacation Bible School on a daily basis.

Hope Lutheran Christmas 2003
On Christmas break of 2003, the Hope Lutheran Church of Friendswood traveled to Carboneras. They hammered, painted, shingled, and held Vacation Bible School classes for the children of the village. Working with kids and helping people… what better way to spend the Christmas holidays??
