A long-term project
Builders Without Borders of Texas, Inc., has been engaged in the long-term process of improving the quality of education and economic development of Carbonera. Carbonera is a fishing village located in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Although there is no official census, we believe that the village is home to approximately 3,000 people. The main source of income in the village is through fishing, which brings in about $10 per day on average.

Projects Currently Complete/Underway in Carbonera
- Dormitory and pavilion built to house volunteers
- Elementary school computer lab/library equipped with books and computers added to the existing elementary school
- Classrooms added to the existing jr. high school
- Cafeteria constructed at the existing jr. high school
- High school built (currently four buildings and three graduated classes)
- Baptist Church constructed
- Methodist Church dormitory and pastor's house renovated
- Fish house and pier built
- Building to house mobile medical clinic constructed
- Dental clinic provided annually
- College program dormitory in Ciudad Victoria
